Saturday (Super boot camp)

7:30am

Our Tahunanui Beach sessions really are at their best in the warmer months and year round for the 9am sessions.

They follow the same structure as every other session and last for 1hour.  A majority of the time we are on the beach, enjoying the soft terrain, taking in the spectacular views of the Tasman bay and Haulashore Island while exercising at our gym with a view and fresh sea air.  These sessions often include some agility and running shuttles in the sand good for strengthening our feet and lower legs.  When the tide or weather is less favourable you'll find us exercising back in the carpark, using the vast playground equipment, stretching out in the playing fields or doing a roaming session taking it all in.

We meet in the main beach carpark by the basketball court, see our map for exact location.

Every second Saturday we train at Tahuna alternated with a different location around Nelson.  Please see page/schedule under SUPER BOOT CAMP for exact dates and locations.

Our cathedral steps sessions in the centre of Nelson city are a hate to love session.  The 6am sessions at these locations are a favourite for many and often see our biggest groups and there is a reason for this!

They are hard, they hurt, but they are effective.  The stairs themselves provide an effort for many, but throw in some kettlebell carries up the stairs or throwing a medicine ball up them as you go, followed by a few wall sits (trainer Trav's favourite) or crab crawls/spider walks (trainer Laura's favourite) along with a few hundred reps of anything else we throw at you and you'll know why these sessions work.

Like all the rest they are 1hr long and follow the same structure with a 30min intensity effort in the middle that you'll never forget.

We usually meet at the bottom of the steps at the 1903 square and make good use of this space and the vacant nearby streets this early in the morning.

Mornings not for you, then get along after a days work for some you time to either of the two evening sessions we offer at the same location, usually based from part way up the stairs and often found using the grounds of the cathedral.  A great way to end your day.

The purpose of Super Boot Camp Saturday is to EXPLORE.  Explore both our fantastically beautiful region with attending sessions in different locations offering different challenges than our normal locations.  But also to explore yourself with unusual challenges both physically and mentally in new places trying and doing new things, often working in groups to to finish the challenge or complete the task.  They are not for the faint hearted, but then again, anyone can still attend as we tailer the sessions not to favour the fitter few and with the group/team nature its always best to work together.

These sessions are every second Saturday and alternate between Tahunanui Beach and another location that each take their turn providing the new challenge.  Sometimes they may go longer than an hour for an extra challenge so be prepared.  We are currently testing ourselves on Nelson's infamous Tamaki Street Stairs, Botanics Centre of NZ, the Grampains Grunt, and are looking for more locations.

Check our Facebook page or schedule page for dates and locations.

Miram said this after one of those, "Thanks so much for this mornings workout - super tough & awesome.  Love the fact how you kept us so motivated through the pain! Definitely have a spring in my step after that session (well not too much as legs are like jelly ????).  Thank you!!"

Trafalgar Centre

Tuesday

6:00am

The sessions on the Maitai river walkway next to the Trafalgar centre are enjoyed by many.  Its flat (no stairs at all), there is grass, shelter for those wet days (not so frequent in Nelson) and a well lit concrete path which we use most sessions.  Its a great location for a great walkout with many options terrain type which we wait for the sun to rise over the hills behind us.  Come along and try for yourself what games and activities we get up to.  Its the only session of the week at this location.  Meet us in the main carpark by the Trafalgar centre just off Paru Paru road.

What is Boot Camp Nelson?

We provide a challenging but enjoyable workout session at different outdoor locations around Nelson. Our Boot Camp sessions are suitable for all levels of fitness, and our instructors are trained to ensure you get the workout that’s right for you. We have daily sessions at 6am, 9am and 6pm. Check out our timetable at the top of your screen.

How does it work?

All sessions we offer last for 1hr and include our warm up, the main body of the session and a warm down to wind you back down again.  Feel free to arrive a little earlier then the stated start time to start your own warm up (and wake up for the 6am sessions), but we generally aim to get underway within a few minutes.  Our warm ups do vary depending on who is taking the session and are usually structured to suit the type of session that is planned but offer a range of activities usually involving some dynamic exercises, something aerobic, perhaps some balance/stability, coordination drills and maybe some running (but you are always welcome to walk).  The early morning sessions and colder days usually have a longer warm up to compensate for the early morning stiffness we have at these times.

The main body of the session usually lasts about 30mins and who knows what that might be or what you might get?  But thats the fun of our sessions, variety and randomness.  As one of our regular's, Wendy says, "You never know what the session is going to involve, it’s always different which makes it fun."

We do our best to offer different styles of sessions that give you opportunity to work at your own pace/intensity, other times having games and races individually, pairs and groups.  Other sessions are more group or team based so have some fun together with your new friends and work towards the bigger goal together.  Finally we finish off with some core and mid section focused exercise followed by some quieter wind own, relax and stretch time.

Then BOOM, session done, hopefully you are done too and now time to chat to others and reflect on what step you just took towards the better you.  Guarantee you will now be feeling better than when you turned up, time to roll into your day and get going.

Jane says, " I have been attending boot camp with Nige and the team twice a week for 3 months. It's a great way to start the day and I feel so much fitter and healthier and have a lot more energy to get me through the day "

How much does it cost?

3 sessions per week - $115 per month

Unlimited sessions per week - $145 per month

10 session card for $120 - valid for 4 months

Testimonials

The purpose of training is to tighten up the slack, toughen the body, and polish the spirit".  As I read this, I nodded to myself and reflected on how well the bootcamp sessions with trainers Nige, Laura and Travis made the above statement so true.  I have toned my shape, feel stronger and my mind is clearer. And  I do this while having a laugh, with  a great group of like minded motivated individual at 6am!

Bootcamp is the best exercise program I have been a part of.  Ill admit that during winter it is sometimes a struggle to get up and venture out into the cold but I never regret getting to the beach and getting warmed up.  Nige and Laura keep us working hard throughout the hour session with plenty of variety.  I keep coming back because I love starting my day spending time outside with a fun workout, a really supportive group of people, and what better location than Tahunanui Beach!

I’ve been going along to Nelson Bootcamp sessions for a few years now, what I enjoy about them is the variety both in terms of the workouts and getting to do it outdoors rather than stuck in a gym.  You turn up, warm up a bit then get stuck in never really knowing what is going to be thrown at you, Nige and the other trainers do a great job of tailoring to suit all levels as well so no one is left needing more or not being able to keep up.  having sessions at the Church steps, beach on alternative days also adds to the variety and ensure you are not just turning up to do the same workout you did a day or two earlier.  Thoroughly recommend either just to get fit or if you have an event coming up that you want to do some extra training for.  Get into it!

Boot Camp is awesome! I wish I’d had tried it out earlier. I was a bit nervous starting but because of the way it’s structured it doesn’t matter how fit you are. The instructors will give you an easier or harder exercise to do if needed. I love how it contains both cardio and strengthening exercises. It’s a great way to meet new people and the best thing is that I don’t get bored like I use to at the gym and you’re not locked in for a year! You never know what the session is going to involve, it’s always different which makes it fun. It’s also given me the ability to enter a couple of events that I wouldn’t have done if it wasn’t for Boot Camp

I have been attending boot camp with Nige and the team twice a week for 3 months. It's a great way to start the day and I feel so much fitter and healthier and have a lot more energy to get me through the day
